Who am I?

by Kelly Keene

(Inspired by the music from Les Miserables the play.)

Who am I?

Can I condemn myself to misery?

Pretend I do not teach who teach to me?

This meeting that is in disgrace,

and screams with judgement to my face-

Who am I?

Will I condemn my craft forevermore?

Remain to teach, as I have before?

This student who’s not just a face,

will be right here, right in this place.

Who am I?

Can I help them to grow and thrive?

Can I step back so we survive?

My room belongs to them I know.

We struck this bargain long ago.

They gave me hope when hope was lean.

They are my strength to still be seen.

Who am I?

Who am I?

I am Ms. Keene.
